Mountain building and Climatic signal propagation

Forward modelling to solve an inverse problem

Cyclic curves generated by the model

Project description

The climatic cyclicity found on the 40 million years old sediments of Belsué syncline (northern Spain) can be correlated with the periodical changes on the Earth rotation axis. But are the astronomical changes affecting the precipitation, the sea level position, or the sediment availability of the area?

Map of the area superimposed to one of the Monte Carlo scenarios

Achievements

The generated model with multiple Monte Carlo simulated scenarios has arisen that the sediment availability is the main factor controlling the final sediment distribution, more than the sea level changes or the precipitation.

Technologies used

Experiment design, numerical modelling, algorithm making, MySQL, Groovy scripting, data analysis.
